Title: Arrangement in the beginning
Component 5: Organizing Physical Space
Grade Level: 4-8
Group Size: whole classroom
Source of Idea:http://www.ehow.com/info_7890515_different-classroom-arrangements.html
Explanation of Idea: This idea is to arrange my classroom setting up that best works for the students and me. This website gives four examples on how I could set my classroom desks and furniture in a way that is comfortable to move around and be active. I would choose the traditional set up for the first couple weeks of school only for the reason the students and I need to get to know each other and become familiar with our classroom. The traditional set up consists of my desk in front of the classroom and the students’ desks line up in straight rows. I would rather have my desk in the back of the classroom because that would work best for me in the beginning of the year. This arrangement will be best in the beginning of the year so as a class we can come up with rules and ways to come together as a whole. The traditional arrangement lets me monitor the student’s work and behavior so I can get a better feel on how I need to present lesson and directions. It also allows me to see who can work well together and who may need some help with their work. This set up is just a great way for me to better my lessons for the students and an easier way for me to monitor behavior.
Assessment Tool: This idea will allow me to become familiar with my students and my classroom when the school year begins. I will be able to watch the success of my students in this arrangement easier for me to evaluate their class work and testing. I will be able to take my evaluations of my students and come up with a new arrangement that will work well for the students and me when we are further into the school year.
